"I see the pond!"
After our 7 hour journey during those heatwaves, a dusty stationwagon full of family pets, over-grown teens, and warm meat & mayo sandwiches, The first glimpse of the lake was a most welcoming sight, so much so that it became a family ritual to be the first to spot and exclaim, "I see the pond!"
Of course nowadays, 25 years later, the trees are overgrown and we have to wait patiently another 5 minutes to see the lake. Luckily speed limits have gone up and rest breaks have gone down, so the trip is under 5 hours. *wink*
I love checking out the many perennials when I first arrive - see what's blooming or at least what has survived the winter!
